Ryan Unzicker sweeps Summer Nationals opener at Kankakee

After topping the 36-car field in time trials, Unzicker outran Jason Feger in his heat race to pick up the win. Leading all 40 laps in the feature, Ryan cruised to his second win of the season and 11th career Hell Tour triumph. He bagged a $5,000 payday ahead of Bobby Pierce, Dennis Erb Jr., Drake Troutman, and Feger.
The following night at Peoria Speedway (Peoria, Ill.), Ryan followed up the seventh-fastest lap in his group with a seventh-to-third run in his heat. Passing four cars in the 40-lap feature, Unzicker notched a fourth-place finish.
In a field of 39 cars on Thursday at Davenport Speedway (Davenport, Iowa), Unzicker’s fourth-place finish in his heat pinned him on the eighth row for the A-Main. With $5,000 on the line, Ryan advanced through the field 13 spots to register an impressive third-place finish.
On Friday evening at Tri-City Speedway (Granite City, Ill.), Ryan came in sixth in his heat before placing third in his B-Main. Wheeling his way into the Top-10 in the feature, Unzicker passed 13 cars in the 40-lap affair to place sixth.
For the fifth round of the Hell Tour on Saturday at Fairbury Speedway (Fairbury, Ill.), Unzicker locked his spot into the $10,000-to-win A-Main with a second-place finish in his heat. Clawing forward three spots in the 50-lap feature, Ryan recorded a fourth-place finish.
To wrap up a very successful week on the road on Sunday, Ryan stopped at Sycamore Speedway (Maple, Park, Ill.) where he drove from 12th-to-fourth in the 40-lap feature.
He is currently second in the latest DIRTcar Summer Nationals point standings.
