Unzicker treks to Merritt Speedway for Wood Tic

Ryan Unzicker trekked north to Merritt Speedway (Merritt, Mich.) on Friday afternoon to compete in the two-day Ed Vanduinen and Dan Salay Memorial Wood Tic.

Drawing 43 DIRTcar Late Models for the 35th running of the annual event, Unzicker claimed the $1,000 fast time award with a blistering 14.130-second lap in time trials before placing first in his heat race. Chasing a $5,000 payday in Friday’s preliminary feature, Ryan notched a third-place finish in the 40-lapper, which came behind Chad Finley and Rusty Schlenk.

On Saturday, Ryan secured his spot into the $35,000-to-win finale with a runner-up finish in his heat race. Rolling off ninth, Unzicker suffered a broken bracket early in the 75-lapper that brought a disappointing end to his weekend.
